1980, the view from Pigeon Lodge

Jurgen ("Bobo") Bobrowski spent a few weeks being the village chief of a special village that resided in Pigeon Lodge. He took this photo from the second-floor west-facing room in the back of the building. He's obviously looking out across Biscuit Creek to the main part of camp. Notice the newly paved parking area in front of Smith Lodge. It was set up for street hockey, which ran pretty much all day every day. It was 1980 and Margetts Lodge was just a few years old at that point. Notice that you can't see a single car parked anywhere!

Yesterday your faithful blogger was in Philadelphia, where the temp hit 104. I had driven down from Manhattan where it was 101. Here at Frost Valley it's been in the 90s daytimes but--remember those mountain eves--in the 60s at night. Pokey-Totem takes their overnight tonight at High Falls...should be the perfect evening. We need rain, and temps 8-10 degrees cooler, but otherwise it's a whole lot nicer here than most places along the east coast. Tubing in Biscuit Creek, near the falls, is just as alluring on such afternoons as it has been for decades and for many generations of FV'ers. Watch this video and cool off mentally.

Biscuit Creek falls, yesterday. It's been several days since one of the great '09 rainstorms, but look how much water is still flowing over the dam.

Last Saturday, on the Biscuit Creek Bridge at Frost Valley, Chris Lane proposed to Lindsay Chandler-Alexander. She said yes! This photo was taken not long after the moment. Lindsay thinks she was at FV summers from 1992 to 2001. Chris was there from '98 to '02. Lindsay says: "We met in the summer of 1999 which was my JC summer and his second summer at camp. We decided to start dating on July 15th under the Biscuit Creek Bridge and 9 and a half years later that is where Chris proposed to me! Frost valley means the world to us. It is where we met, fell in love, and now where we got engaged. We couldn't be happier!"

Another Frost Valley romance turns into marriage. How many have there been? I can think of a dozen without even trying.

Of course Lindsay is in a long-line of a Wawayanda/Frost Valley family - the Chandlers of Long Island. (I remember Dave Chandler and Cathy Chandler very well - from 40 years ago.)

Two Pokey girls sit in what is always the coolest (in several respects) place in camp: 12 feet below ground level, at the bottom of the Biscuit Creek Falls pool. When it's 90 degrees in the middle of a sunny field not 200 yards away, it feels like 65 down here. A whole activity period, nothing to do but sit, talk, let the spray coat your face and arms with chilly Biscuit water, and...rockpaint. Look at the close-up and see that these two have gathered - and neatly set in a row - a series of differently colored variously textured stones. They are exploring the colors the stones make when you wet them and scratch them across the larger creek rocks. They've just begun to dab their faces. Yes, remember this? Natural facepainting! They've "discovered" it on their own.
